Macular Degeneration Treatment
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease caused by damage or breakdown of the macula, the small part of the eye’s retina that is responsible for central vision. This condition affects both distance and close vision. Macular degeneration is the leading cause of severe vision loss in Caucasians over the age of 65. There is no cure for macular degeneration.
Manchester Opthalmology is pleased to offer implantable telescopes for patients with macular degeneration. The implantable telescope is available for those patients over 75 years of age who have moderate to severe wet or dry macular degeneration. The telescope is placed into the eye at the time of cataract surgery.
Manchester Ophthalmology has assembled a team of retina specialists, a fellowship trained corneal surgeon, a low vision specialist, and an occupational therapist. The Telescope is an exciting new technology that is covered fully by Medicare.
